At the beginning of my anxiety journey, whilst relentlessly searching for ways to reduce my anxiety, I came across CBD (Cannabidiol) oil.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of over 85 cannabinoids currently identified in the cannabis plant, and, is the second largest cannabinoid in marijuana after THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD oil contains high CBT and low THC (less than 0.3% for it to be legal in the UK). The CBT interacts with the body’s natural systems but it is non-psychotropic therefore, it does not cause a high. It’s also important to note that CBD is not addictive and you will not suffer any side effects from using CBD oil, there are also other health benefits CBD oil can offer, click here to find out more.
Benefits of CBD oil for anxiety:
- Improves sleep quality.
- Activates the serotonin receptors in the body which reduces: pain, depression, anxiety and nausea.
- People who suffer with anxiety as a result of schizophrenia benefit from using CBD oil as it is antipsychotic.
- CBD oil reduces the inflammation of the brain and promotes the ability of the brain to adapt to stressful situations.
- One study has been conducted where researchers found that CBD can reduce fear, and, improve the memory of individuals whilst publicly speaking.
There has been a few studies conducted into the effects of CBD and anxiety and they have so far concluded that it may be beneficial for people who suffer with: Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder and mild/moderate Depression.
My Experience using CBD oil
I was pleasantly surprised with the effects of CBD oil, it helps me relax when I’m feeling at my worst unlike any other herbal remedy I’ve tried. It doesn’t eradicate my anxiety, but I personally feel that it does relieve those symptoms of anxiety. I typically use CBD oil before going outside (which i don’t do very often) or at night-time, as it helps me sleep as well as helps me to feel less tense/panicked.
I purchase my CBD oil from Holland and Barrett as it’s a trusted health store. I use the CBD oil in the liquid form; you can also buy capsules if you’d prefer, but it may take longer to kick in. I don’t use it everyday as I like to mix up how I reduce my anxiety as much as possible and I feel it is more beneficial to only use it when its most needed .
How to use CBD oil
As mentioned above I use the CBD oil in liquid form therefore, if you’re interested in using capsules, ignore this: I place 5 drops under my tongue then wait 1 minute for it to absorb (you can swish it around, but it doesn’t taste the best and isn’t necessary to do so). I then wash it down with a glass or water to get rid of the taste; I do believe you can purchase different flavours however, I haven’t found any yet.
I hope you enjoyed this post, and please do not use CBD oil before checking with a health professional beforehand that it is okay to do so. Also be extra cautious of where you purchase your CBD oil from.
